Experience Relief from Headache Pain
You want immediate relief when you experience a headache—that annoying pain or discomfort in your head, scalp, or neck. In many cases, massage therapy can help bring relief to different types of headaches:
- Tension headaches: These are the most common and are usually caused by tight muscles in your shoulders, neck, scalp, and jaw. They’re often related to stress, depression, or anxiety. You usually feel a tension headache on both sides of your head. The discomfort starts at the back of your head and spreads forward. The pain may feel dull like a tight band or squeezed, as in a vice. You may feel tight and sore in your shoulders, neck, or jaw. The pain is usually persistent, but it does not get worse with activity.
- Migraine headaches: These severe headaches are usually accompanied by other symptoms such as vision disturbances or nausea. The throbbing, pounding, or pulsating pain tends to begin on one side of your head, but it may spread to both sides, and it often worsens as you move around. A group of warning symptoms, called an aura, may indicate that a migraine is about to begin.
- Cluster headaches: Sharp, very painful headaches that tend to occur several times per day for months and then go away for a similar period of time are far less common than other types.
- Sinus headaches: When you experience pain in the front of your head and face, it's usually due to inflammation in the sinus passages behind your cheeks, nose, and eyes. The pain tends worsen when you first wake up or when you bend forward.
At Evergreen Massage Therapy, you can benefit from specific therapies designed to bring you relief. One approach is trigger-point therapy that applies pressure to major muscle groups to release and relax the tense muscles that are causing headaches. This trigger-point therapy often reduces the intensity and frequency of your headaches. Another approach is light massage combined with migraine pressure points. Many of our clients report experiencing wonderful relief from migraine headaches through this therapy.
